Twilight can be a great source for gifts this Christmas. Twilight Saga: New Moon hits theaters November 20, 2009. Its popularity is expected to exceed that of the original offering and fans are flooding the internet fan sites with discussion of the new movie. With all of the hype and well-established interest in Edward, Bella, Jacob and company, you’ve got a ready-made grab-bag from which to draw Christmas gifts for the Twilight fan in your life.

Twilight fans are often rabid about their favorite saga and they love to show their loyalty with Twilight merchandise. You will be the favorite aunt, uncle or distant relative if you give a Christmas gift promoting their favorite Twilight character or quote. But before you try to choose a gift, a bit of background is in order.

In Twilight, the Movie (the first story in the Saga), Bella, a beautiful teen-age girl, moves to the small town of Forks in Washington State to live with her father. There she meets Edward, a fascinating, mysterious young man with whom she falls in love. He is a vampire, part of a group of vampires who have come together as a family determined to overcome their instinct for attacking humans. They act as protectors for Bella when she is hunted by an unsavory group of vampires who do not try to resist their more unacceptable instincts. The two immortals who are most threatening are James and Victoria, names one would do well to remember when shopping for gifts.

There are other important characters in the Saga, some of whom come into their own in the second installment, New Moon. Jacob is the son of a long-time family friend. We don’t want to give away the entire story, but as it turns out, vampires aren’t the only supernatural creatures in Forks, Washington. Herein lies the burgeoning conflict and widening selection of gift choices. Does your Twilight fan favor Edward or Jacob? This is an important slice of information to know.

So, ready for some Twilight Christmas gift ideas? The first thing you need to do is decide on a basic item. You might choose a mug or a stein. Maybe the Twilight fan for whom you are shopping would be more interested in a clothing item. Perhaps jewelry modeled after something worn by Bella in the film or accessories with a Twilight look would be a better choice. Books, music, and knick-knacks are all available for Christmas gift-giving. Some of these items can be personalized and some can be bought with favorite characters and quotes in mind.

Early in the first film, Edward asks Bella, “What if I’m the bad guy?” Well, you can find that quote on shirts and totes and picture frames and mugs – pretty much any bit of merchandise related to Twilight. It is a popular quote. But what if you want to be more personal? What if you don’t want to say something quite so well-known?

There are some great quote sites on the internet. You can find quotes from almost all of the main characters. If you don’t want to spend a lot of time looking, here are a few that you might choose.

  • Edward asks Bella if she is afraid of him, to which she replies, “I’m only afraid of losing you.”
  • Edward, in trying to explain how difficult it is for him to resist his impulse to devour humans, compares the desire to that of an addict. Bella asks if she’s his brand of heroin. Edward’s reply? “Yes, you are exactly my brand of heroin.”
  • James, upon first seeing Bella with Edward: “Ahhh. You brought a snack.”
  • And Bella nervously asks Edward, “How long have you been seventeen?” to which he answers, “…a while.”

These are just a few suggestions for Christmas gifts for Twilight fans. The release of the film so close to Christmas solidifies both the ease with which you can find a gift and the delight with which it will be received. Let Twilight be a great source for gift-giving this Christmas.
